For ultimate tone-sculpting ability in a bullet-proof enclosure, put the Ten Band EQ on your pedalboard.

Source Audio introduces the Ventris Reverb (demo)

Following the success of the much-heralded Nemesis Delay, Source Audio will introduce the dual processor equipped Ventris Reverb at the 2017 Winter NAMM Show. Demos of a beta-version of the pedal will take place in Hall B at Source Audio booth #5498. The Ventris is a powerful stereo reverb pedal featuring 24 distinct effect engines ranging from classic Spring, Plate and Room sounds to advanced Shimmer, Swell, Modulation, and Pitch Shifting reverbs. The Ventris also features dual DSP hardware, eight onboard presets, true spillover, stereo inputs and outputs, soft bypass (or "trails"), a unique hold function, full MIDI control, and deep editing functionality with the Neuro Mobile App (a free download for Android and iOS).

Back in January of 2016 Source Audio released the Nemesis Delay, a seminal super-delay pedal that was instantly embraced by musicians of all kinds and attracted much attention from the major music gear publications. Sound On Sound said the Nemesis "sounds absolutely gorgeous." Premier Guitar gave it their coveted "Premier Gear Award." Guitar Player inducted the pedal into their "Hall of Fame." Fletcher Stewart of Tone Report Weekly called it a "future classic" and honored it with TRW's "Top Tone Award." Armed with many of the powerful features that made the Nemesis so successful and knowledge gained from over a year of intense research, Source Audio has crafted a thoroughly modern reverb pedal with exceptional tone and highly advanced features. "We spent much of 2016 talking with hundreds of music professionals and gear forum enthusiasts," says Source Audio president, Roger Smith. "We asked them, 'what would you put in your dream reverb pedal?' It was that conversation that led us to the conclusion that dual processor architecture was our best path. No other pedal features dual processors, and this gives the Ventris a number powerful advantages - it's like having two high-end reverb pedals in a single unit."

Source Audio's two man engineering team of Bob Chidlaw and Jesse Remignanti took extreme care in crafting the Ventris's exceptionally spacious and natural reverb tones. The pedal features 12 onboard reverb engines with an additional 12 available in the Neuro Mobile App. Effect engines include two flavors of Spring and Plate reverb for remarkably authentic vintage tones. The pedal perfectly captures the ambient reverberations of a wide range of room sizes from the warm and tight Club engine to the vast and cavernous E-Dome. The Ventris also offers a beautiful collection of "unnatural" reverb effects. The Swell engine creates a reverb swell for subtly emerging puffs of sound. Metal Box imagines the sound of your amp blasting in a claustrophobic, steel walled storage container. Shimmer mixes in angelic octave-up reverberations for an atmospheric sheen. Vocal applies detailed filtering to the reverb for a haunting vocal quality.

The Ventris Reverb also features a long list of time-tested control functions as well as some bold new ones. Independent dual DSPs (a completely new feature in the Ventris) give the pedal the ability to perform a number of valuable routing and preset switching options. A standout feature made possible by the dual DSP is "true spillover," which allows users to change from one preset to another without cutting off or shortening the reverb tail in any way. The Ventris also features 8 onboard presets, full MIDI functionality (extending the preset number to 128), stereo inputs and outputs, runaway feedback capabilities, simultaneous expression control of multiple parameters, external preset switching, a "Hold" function that sustains the reverb trail with the pedal's second footswitch, and much more.

Like all pedals in the Source Audio One Series, the Ventris features an intuitive set of controls on the face of the pedal and a much larger set of editing parameters when connected to the Neuro Mobile App. Front panel controls include Pre-Delay, Time (which controls the length of the decay), Mix, and Tone (a high frequency damping filter). The pedal also includes two variable knobs called "Color 1" and "Color 2" that change function depending on the nature of the selected Reverb engine. The Neuro Mobile App offers an additional set of reverb engines and an extended set of deep editing parameters. With the App users can edit highly customized presets then save and share them with other musicians in the Ventris/Neuro Community.

Below is a demo from Pro Guitar Shop:

Death by Audio introduces Micro Dream and Evil Filter

The Micro Dream is the Echo Dream stripped down to just the delay function. It's priced at $200.

The Evil Filter is priced at $380 and will ship in February.

Psycho HP/BP/LP filter. When pushed to the limit it glitches out into octaves up, down, and insanity. Has 2 really nasty fuzzes, one straight forward and powerful as heck - the other pushing and pulling with every chord. CV/Expression in - slam the filter up and down in sync with an arpeggiating synth or control it with an expression pedal. Sounds amazing with synth and guitar.

JHS unveils Milkman and VCR

The Milkman will ship in early spring 2017, and is priced at $179.

The Milkman is a collaborative idea between Josh Scott of JHS Pedals and Tim Marcus of Milkman Sound. The concept is simple; a single pedal that offers up an echo/slap delay and a boost that can be used as an always-on enhancer or as an overdrive for small wattage amplifiers. Josh designed the circuit in late 2016 and here we are, a small footprint, easy to use boost/echo 2-in-1 that fits into any style players rig with ease. Let's look at the controls.

The right side of the pedal is the boost side. This boost is a discreet amplifier based circuit with tons of power and character. Simply set it low at unity gain for an always-on enhancer that fattens up and clarifies your tone, or turn more clockwise to push your tube amplifier into sweet natural overdrive. The left side of the pedal is the echo/slap delay circuit. This circuit is designed to be a hybrid of tape echo and analog BBD delay. The controls are simple and it sounds good in every setting. The “Slap” knob is the amount of delay time. As you turn the knob up, you will get longer delay times. Keep in mind, this pedal is designed for shorter vintage slap-back delay times. The “Mix” knob is the effect level. Full counter clockwise is all dry and full clockwise is full wet/effect. The “Repeat” knob controls how many echoes or repeats you get. The minimum is one and maximum is around 4.5 repeats. "Repeat" knob lets you fine tune how many delays you will get. Lastly is the “EQ” knob. This control only affects the repeat delay signal so that you can perfectly adjust the brightness or darkness of your echo. When fully counter clockwise the repeats are at their darkest much like an old BBD analog delay. When fully clockwise the repeats are the brightest they will be with more grit, this is much like a classic tape delay machine.

The footswitching is our typical 2 in 1 arrangement where either effect can be used separately or together. The foot switch on the left, the switch will turn the delay on/off and the footswitch on the right will turn the boost on/off.

The VCR will ship in early spring 2017, and is priced at $259.

The VCR pedal is a first in a new collaboration between PaxAM, Ryan Adams, and JHS Pedals. The VCR pedal is Ryan's signature Volume/Chorus/Reverb pedal inspired by the tones of The Cure, The Smiths and a hefty dose of 1980’s angst. Dial in the perfect movement, ambience and volume/boost level to create an instant three effect analog preset.

There is one true bypass stompswitch that functions as a master on/off and each of the three effects are turned on/off with their respective toggle. There is a corresponding LED for each effect that indicates when the effect is on/off. All three effects can be used together or individually.

The volume/boost is an all discreet transparent boost that can be used as an always-on enhancer, lead booster, or pushing an amp into natural overdrive.

The Chorus is based around classic 1980s analog chorus pedals. With Chorus knob at 12-noon, this emulates a common 80s chorus pedal with ALL knobs at noon. As y0u turn the Chorus knob to the right... the rate will increase and depth will decrease. As you turn the Chorus knob to the left, rate decreases and depth increases.

The Reverb is a hall reverb tweaked to Ryan's exact preferences. The reverb and decay is fixed and the knob functions as an effect Level.

Last but not least there is a secret lo-fi switch to top things off.

Alexander unveils Sky Fi reverb and delay

It's priced at $199. Product page here.

The Sky Fi's reverb engine takes inspiration from certain digital rack units of the '80s and '90s. These units were designed to be as affordable as possible, and had some unique hardware quirks that caused their reverb effects to build in intensity over time. This "slow-building" artifact is one of the things that made these units so special. We've done our best to capture some of the magic of these units with the Sky Fi, while also incorporating some tricks of our own.

Controls:

Reverb — Adjusts the mix and decay of the reverb engine.
Delay — Controls the delay time for the delay engine.
Mix — Controls the blend between fully dry (clean) and fully wet (reverb + delay only) sound. 12 o’clock is an equal mix of clean and reverb + delay.
Repeat — Controls the feedback and repeats of the delay engine. Rotate counter-clockwise for dark, filtered repeats. Rotate clockwise for bright repeats.

Mode Toggle:

Wash — Combines an 800ms delay with our slow-building reverb engine. Holding the footswitch initiates reverb sustain.
Gleam — Adds an upper octave partial to the reverb effect, holding the footswitch swells in a pronounced shimmer. Maximum delay time in this mode is approximately 640ms.
Echo — Slow-build reverb plus delay, holding the footswitch reduces the reverb slightly and forces the delay into oscillation. Warning - extremely loud oscillation and / or total collapse of your signal may occur!

HOLD Function:

The Sky Fi has a unique feature - the bypass footswitch integrates with the reverb and delay engines. Hold the footswitch to shift the reverb or delay engine into a feedback mode. In Wash and Gleam modes, the Hold function increases the Reverb time and mix to an infinite setting. In Echo mode, the Hold function increases the Delay feedback to maximum levels.

Bypass Switching:

The Sky Fi features a buffered bypass with optional "trails." In Trails mode the reverb and delay will continue to repeat when the pedal is bypassed. To switch between standard bypass and trails, hold the bypass switch while powering on. The LED will blink once for standard bypass or five times for trails. The pedal remembers the last setting. The Sky Fi features an analog dry signal path.

Wet / Dry Output:

The Sky Fi allows the player to separate the wet and dry signals at the output jack. Insert a standard mono patch cable into the jack to use as a traditional guitar pedal - the output will contain both wet and dry signals as determined by the Mix knob. If a stereo / TRS cable is connected, the Sky Fi will place a buffered dry signal on the "ring" of the jack and a mix of wet and dry on the "tip." Set the Mix control fully clockwise to have complete wet / dry separation. The Sky Fi will send the dry signal to both outputs when bypassed.

Power Supply:

The Sky Fi requires a 9V DC power supply with a 2.1mm pin, center negative. The Sky Fi is not designed to be powered on supplies higher than 9V and does not use a battery. The Sky Fi should work fine on a multi-pedal "daisy chain" connector, but if you encounter excessive noise or hum try a separate power supply. The Sky Fi requires approx. 60mA.

Walrus Audio announces RED High-Gain Distortion

The Walrus Audio Red is a mean, heavy, have no mercy distortion pedal. Inspired by the brutal, heavy tones found in early 90’s heavy metal and shoegaze bands, Walrus Audio has designed a new high gain distortion that is capable of achieving aggressive, pounding, thick tone that will appeal to everyone from skate punks, to heavy hearted chord spillers, to the Swedish Death Metal players. The RED is a versatile distortion that is sure to become the new high gain staple on players’ boards everywhere.

The Texture switch provides two different configurations of clipping diodes. The down position selects the highest level of compression and clipping available. Use this mode for smooth singing leads and heavily compressed rhythm work. The up position selects the lowest level of compression and clipping available. Use this mode for a more course tone that is more overdrive-like in nature.

It's priced at $219, with more info available on the official product page. Pre-orders are open now, with a shipping date of Jan 24. Below is a completely useless "trailer" because fuck product demos or something:

Earthquaker introduces Space Spiral (with demo)

The Space Spiral is a dark and dreamy modulated delay designed to take you across the highways of fantasy. While the delay may be designed around a “dawn of digital” echo processor, the sound is out of this world, man. If you are a fan of the dreary echoes produced by old oil can delays or the ethereal sound of a well-loved tape delay, the Space Spiral is totally going to tickle your tone bone.

The Space Spiral’s delay time ranges from a tight 30ms to a fast and loose 600ms. Can you imagine having 600ms of delay time at your fingertips? Out of this world! With all of this adjustable delay time you create anything from a classic slapback to a rhythmic wash of cosmic proportions. You want to take it even further? Maybe to an astral plane? Crank up the repeats and let the infinite oscillation of the Space Spiral take you to the other side.

Space Spiral™… It’ll get you through the night.

It's got a list price of $195. More info available at the official product page. The official demo is below:

DigiTech FreqOut demo

PGS has a demo up on the upcoming FreqOut from DigiTech.

Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we’re screaming with the FreqOut, from DigiTech. The FreqOut is a natural feedback creator that lets you generate natural feedback without any noise complaints or hearing loss. While most feedback techniques require a ridiculous amount of distortion, the FreqOut works clean, at any volume and even without an amp in the room. The FreqOut reads the incoming harmonic content of the signal, and gives you the ability to focus the feedback on a certain frequency range, for all kinds of creative feedback applications far beyond that of a simple roaring amp. DigiTech gives the FreqOut’s switch the royal treatment, by making it true bypass as well as switchable between latching and momentary modes. The Momentary mode is especially useful for players that want only short bursts of concentrated feedback. A handy Dry Kill toggle switch eliminates the dry signal for 100 percent pure feedback, which lets you sculpt the raw feedback with pedals for tons of extra textures. Two concentric knobs for Gain and Onset let you tailor the feedback to your needs, letting you adjust the flavor as well as the time it takes the feedback to get cooking. And just like all other DigiTech pedals, the FreqOut is housed in a rugged metal chassis that will last a lifetime of gigs.

MF Stupid Deal - Vox Tone Garage Flat 4 Boost

Musician's Friend has a daily deal on the Vox Tone Garage Flat 4 Boost. It's on sale for $89.99, and usually sells for $159.99.

MF Stupid Deal - Tech 21 Bass Boost Fuzz

The Tech 21 Bass Boost Fuzz is on sale today at Musician's Friend for $79, which is $70 off its usual price of $149.

It goes by many names, comes in many flavors and they’re all good. Unfortunately, finding that sweet spot isn’t so easy with vintage pedals. You need to deal with noise, signal loss, tones that can change with battery life and even the temperature on stage. Some of those old Germanium-powered effects are more sensitive than a train-car of nitro.

Tech 21’s all-analog circuitry squeezes righteous, vintage tones out of every Boost Series pedal with modern dependability. Designed and built from the ground up utilizing the best individually-selected, hand-biased discreet components, each unit delivers optimized performance with studio-quiet operation. And we call them Boost pedals for a reason. Alongside a wealth of hot driven tones, there is a powerful boost function that delivers up to an incredible 21dB of clean boost, which can be used independently from the effect. It is a true post-boost, punching up the tone you dialed in, not smothering it in unwanted distortion. From the high-impedance input to the sweepable low-pass filter in the tone control, your tone will be open and controllable in every setting.

When you need a huge, 360-degree, room-filling bass tone, step up to the Bass Boost Fuzz. From the fat, gritty sounds of the ‘60s fuzz bass, to the subterranean growl of industrial metal, the Bass Boost Fuzz puts musical rage in your low-end. When you need more focus and edge, dial in the +CLEAN control to add just the right amount of direct tone to your mix.

MF Stupid Deal - T-Rex Engineering Vulture Distortion

Musician's Friend's Stupid Deal of the Day is T-Rex Engineering's Vulture Distortion. It's on sale for $79, almost half off its usual price of $149.95.

The Vulture has a great, throaty distortion with a nice bite to it but the low end and low midrange can be shaped in many ways, thanks to the low-boost and fat-boost knobs. This allows the player to dial in almost stupid amounts of lows, but the distortion stays tight, not muddy.

T-Rex could have left it at a "bass" knob only, but the low-boost adds a lot of what we all love about 4x12 cabs. That is not necessarily what you need if you are looking for more "body" in the sound though. The fat-boost is designed to add weight and punch to the sound, giving the top strings a lot of depth and presence. The Vulture provides a great, throaty distortion with a nice bite to it but the low end and low midrange can be shaped in many ways, thanks to the low-boost and fat-boost knobs. This allows the player to dial in pronounced lows, but the distortion stays tight, not muddy.

The secret to the Vulture is to adjust the boost and tone knobs for optimal sound when the gain is adjusted, just like on an amp. The Vulture is a carrion bird, one that feasts upon the fetid remains of the dead. Own the desert with tone, body, depth and presence at any volume.

BH DealZone - BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive

B&H Photo has the BOSS BC-2 Combo Drive today in their DealZone offers. It's on sale for $29.99, over half off its original price of $79.99.

MF Stupid Deal - Tech 21 Boost Overdrive

Musician's Friend is having a Stupid Deal of the Day for the Tech 21 Boost Overdrive. It's on sale today for $79, and normally retails for nearly twice that at $149.
